CPL Launch New Magazine Young Country at the National Bank Young Farmer of the Year Contest
New magazine
will inspire young people.
A new magazine aimed at inspiring,
informing and entertaining young people in the rural sector was launched last
week.
Young
Country is the latest venture by Country-Wide
Publications Limited (CPL), the innovative Feilding company behind the
successful rural titles, The New Zealand
Farmers Weekly, Country-Wide and The Deer Farmer.
"We want more young people to
understand the endless opportunities in New Zealand's most
important industry, and choose agriculture as the career of a
lifetime," Country-Wide Publications Ltd Director Dean Williamson told sponsors
and media during the launch of the 2009 Young Farmer Contest in Palmerston
North last Thursday.
"Agriculture will always be the most
important contributor to the New Zealand economy and new magazine Young
Country celebrates the achievements of young people in the industry."
It is edited
by experienced photo-journalist Aaron Smale and managed by Sarah Gilbertson,
and draws on the talents of several freelance writers and photographers around
the country.
It will be
published six times a year and is available only by subscription.
Young Country's first issue finds out what makes Otago sheep
farmer and All Black hooker Andrew Hore tick. Plus, there's advice on how to buy
your first farm in a global recession.
Legendary
rodeo contestants, the Church family, are also featured along with a profile on
former Telecom chief executive Theresa Gattung and her plans for reviving wool
prices.
Columns on
motoring, food, travel, trade, science and technology, plus an invitation for
readers to share their stories, complete each issue.
Young Country has its own website (www.youngcountry.co.nz) where readers
can subscribe, blog or find out more about the magazine.
Dean
Williamson says it is challenging to launch a magazine at any time, but
especially in a global recession.
"Perhaps the
greatest satisfaction for us as owners, is to see two of our younger staff step
up and take on the huge responsibility of launching a new title. It's not easy
- we know!
"Sarah has been a brilliant business
manager, co-ordinating the logistics of production process and times, printing,
sales and marketing, and distribution and Aaron's photography and choice of content
is right on the mark. We're very proud of them, and proud of what they have
achieved," Williamson said.
